Seiransei (SEP) 2007

On the 16th September 2007, Waseda Shibuya High School(Singapore) held its annual High School Festival(Seiransei). A group of us went to visit the school and participate in some of its activities. Let’s take a look at some of them.
First we were brought around the school by the student guides themselves.

As you can see in the second photo, students dress themselves up as walking advertisements to attract people to their stalls. In Seiransei, each class has to come up with a theme for the festival and to decorate their classroom up for visitors to enter. Normally activities will be planned in the classroom for visitors to participate in. Some of these activities are really interesting like “hunted house” etc and the students take pride in their work.

The photo on the left shows the lobby with the classrooms at the upper floors. There is a stage at the end of the walkway and students will advertise their activities on this stage from time to time.

You don’t really have to be observant enough to notice the incredible display of posters all around the school compound. The number of “similar” posters on some of these walls are amazing, like the one on the left. This is how sticking of posters should be done. ^^.

The photo on the right shows a typical waiting spot outside a classroom. The photo on the right is a play by one of the classes. It emulates the famous Jdrama “Hana Yori Dango” but in this context, the girl is played by one of the male students and it was really hilarious.
We definitely had an enjoyable time in Seiransei this year, learning about the Japanese culture and also playing in some of their games & activities. We’ll see you there next year!

A total of 5 Japanese students from visited Singapore from 3rd September to 7th September 2007. They are on a home-stay trip, with some of our members/friends being their hosts. Let’s take a look at what they’ve done in Singapore for these 5 days.
Day 1, they touchdown in Singapore at noon, and were greeted by a group of us who did not have school(or made themselves “available”). We brought them to their respective homes to deposit their luggages and then brought them around the university campus. In the late afternoon, we traveled to the Merlion Park to see the Merlion and then check out the Esplanade at night. We ate at the stretch of food stalls beside the Esplanade for dinner.
Day 2, the students were visited our Botanic Gardens in the morning. Then, at noon, they had Chicken Rice at Lucky Plaza. It was shopping and KTV spree after that. At night, we brought them to the Night Safari and to watch the Animal Show.
Day 3, in the morning, our Japanese friends visited the National Museum. Following that, they had lunch(Wanton Mee) at Selegie. Then, they made they way to Neil road where they had a tea appreciation in one of the tea houses(Fund’s). It was “Xiao Long Bao” after that. At night, we brought them to Clarke Quay’s Brewerkz. Some of them also went for the Reverse Bungy.
Day 4, they went on a tour around Little India in the morning and visited in Bugis(shopping, arcade, pool) in the afternoon. At night, we had steamboat at ChongQin Steamboat.
Day 5, this was the last day and the only day I had pictures to show. T_T. The venue was at Sentosa. We enjoyed ourselves at the beach with games like beach volleyball. At night, we went to the resort we had booked and played some games.

As you can see, the room is a bit overloaded with members and the Japanese students. Haha. Anyway we played a game that forces everyone to pick a card jumbled from 2 decks of cards. The 2 lucky winners with the smallest number wins a cup of alcohol. Of course, we always have Qianli to “tahan”(or assist) for the Japanese Girls if they picked the smallest cards. Here are their expressions after a quite a few rounds.

Anyways, if you look at the first photo of this post, you can find us sitting downstairs enjoying our time chatting. This was when Leslie manage to get the only male Japanese student drunk.
It was all tears when it was time to say goodbye at the airport the next day. For us, we had an unforgettable and enjoyable time with the foreign students and hope they would have another chance to visit us again.
